Why do we need philosophy?
The situation of philosophy in the modern intellectual space is quite ambiguous. On the one hand, this is a respectable academic discipline: there are faculties of philosophy that regularly release diplomated philosophers, dissertations are protected, monographs and textbooks are written, specialized magazines are published, conferences are held ... on the other hand, philosophers do not put experiments (except perhaps mental), do not measure anything , do not analyze the databases, do not go on an expedition - in a word, they do nothing that scientists should do in the representation of our contemporaries. Philosophers argue with each other, criticize their predecessors and colleagues, but hardly anyone can name at least one refuted philosophical concept. So an outsider - and not only the layman, but often a scientist, is difficult to understand what this science is doing, how philosophers conduct their research and whether they lead them at all. And what could philosophy explore? Everything in this world, including the person himself, has long been divided between different scientific disciplines, there is its own science with its concepts, methods and problems for any phenomenon. What remains of the share of philosophy? Is it possible to consider it science at all - or is it something else?
The main theme of this number is an attempt to answer these questions, try to see the real place of the oldest type of intellectual activity in the modern world. Both professional philosophers and those who, without engaging in philosophy specifically, are expressing their vision of these issues, in one way or another they feel its presence in the field of their interests. Their answers do not coincide in everything with each other.
But the subject of the conversation itself is such that it does not imply the only correct decisions and final answers
