The main theme of the magazine "Amateur" No. 079 (July 2022) is the Winter War

On December 31, 1917, the Finnish delegation arrived in Petrograd received a resolution signed by members of the Council of People"s Commissars on the recognition of the independence of Finland. So Finland for the first time in its history has become an independent state. Over the past hundred years, relations between our countries have passed through many tests. In the spring of 1938, secret negotiations on interaction in the case of German aggression began between the USSR and Finland. They were unsuccessful. And although in May 1939, Finland rejected the proposal of Nazi Germany to conclude a non-aggression pact, Moscow was worried about the proximity of the Soviet-Finnish border (only 32 km) from Leningrad. On December 1, 1939, the government of the puppet of the Finnish Democratic Republic was formed in Terioki (now Zelenogorsk) He was headed by Otto Kuusinen, who gathered under his beginning to surviving Red Finns. It was assumed that after the rapid victory of the Red Army, it was Kuusinen to become the head of the New Finland. The Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940, declared by Stalin "liberation campaign, did not, contrary to the chapcoster promises, short and light walks. The Soviet Union ultimately achieved territorial changes in its favor, but this victory turned out to be truly Pirrova: it cost big losses and led to a serious undermining of the country"s international reputation. Immediately after the acquisition of independence, Finland began to build defensive structures on the Karelian Isthmus, which were supposed to restrain the Soviet troops in case of attack. During the assault on the Mannerheim line, the most fierce battles took place in the winter war. Soviet people were sure that the last Russian-Swedish war ended in 1809. Nevertheless, 130 years after the end of that war, the Russians and the Swedes again met on the battlefields. In 1939-1940, as in 1808-1809, Finland was the theater of military operations. The events of the Soviet-Finnish war were reflected both in literary and artistic magazines and in specialized publications for children. All categories of the audience, regardless of education and age, were required to cover with the appropriate propaganda product.
