Foreign Literature. 2022. No. 8

The August number Il is opened with the novel by the Romanian author Vasile Andru (1942–2016) Wedding after death in the translation of Mikhai Preselitsa. The ancient peasant custom is based on this prose: if an unmarried girl dies, the deceased find the groom from among the living, who, together with the funeral procession, accompanies the coffin to the cemetery. During the mourning procession, the hero of the novel re-appreciates himself and his life and rises to the mystical-philosophical pathos.
Next - the Turkish writer Mehmet Hakki Yazja with three stories: the parable of the time, the story of the daughter of an old man and the third - about a thief who helped to pass loneliness to pass. Translation by Mikhail Sharov.

In the heading “From Room to Room” - the continuation of the novel by the Argentinean and Spanish author Andres Nemansa (b. 1977) “Wanderer of the century” translated by Olga Kulagina. The case takes place in the 19th century in the German town of Vandernburg, which has neither breadth nor longitude, because it slowly moves in space. Other oddities are also inherent in Wandernburg, known to his natives and with surprise seen by the visitors ... unhurried smart prose with love, humor and charming philosophizing. The publication of the famous novel is designed for six months - the end in No. 12, 2022.
section “Furious over the world ...” - Shakespeare"s sonnets translated by Mikhail Kuzmin (1872–1936) In essence, a sensation. The introduction of the critic and philologist Igor Shaitanov ends with these words: “However, the very experience of the wonderful Russian poet, who took part in the translation of Shakespeare"s sonnets, is precious ...”
the heading “in memoriam”. In May of this year, an outstanding poet, prose writer and thinker A.P. Tsvetkov (1947–2022) died suddenly. He willingly collaborated with Foreign Literature and even led the section “at the mouth of the Hudson with Alexei Tsvetkov” in the magazine, and shortly before his death he handed over “Il” the philosophical essay “Hammer and Bolts”, which the heading opens. In addition, the essay here also published memories of A.P. Tsvetkov Sergey Gandlevsky and Alexander Stesin.
section Articles, essays. The published excerpt from the book of the French neuropsychiatrist, the psychologist and ethologist Boris Borulnik (b. 1937) “Pigar and the swallowers of the wind. Inner freedom and comfortable slavery ”is dedicated to how totalitarian propaganda takes into the circulation of children and fosters fanatics from them.
