Diaries are first published in Russian and even in English they became available to readers only in 2012. In the spring of 1880, a 23-year-old medical student Arthur Conan Doyle received an unexpected offer-to go on a six-month swimming on a whaling ship. The choice between preparation for the next exam and the polar adventure was short -lived. From the Arctic, the future great writer brought a voluminous notebook with records and his own drawings. Connoisseurs of Konan Doyla’s work will probably note that this period of his life is partly reflected in the memoirs of the writer, however, the diary and sketches presented in the “dangerous work” retained the freshness of the perception of the young man.
