Anatoly Bukreev (1958-1997) - one of the strongest climbers of the world, who rose 18 times to the highest mountains of the planet. He made almost all the ascents without the use of artificial oxygen.
His name became widely known after the tragedy on Everest in May 1996, when participants in several commercial expeditions on the mountain fell into a storm. Bukreev saved three people. This unprecedented story subsequently formed the basis of the film "Everest", shot by Baltazar Kormakur in 2015.
The fate of the diaries is quite unusual. They first saw the light in the United States in English shortly after the death of Bukreev. They were published by the girlfriend of climber Linda Wiley. Now the originals of the diaries, expanded and supplemented, are available to the Russian -speaking reader. The memories of the Italian climber Simone Moro, partner and participant of the last expedition of Bukreev, were added to them.
