The magazine "Nash Sovremennik" was founded in 1956. Its leading authors were Valentin Rasputin, Vasily Belov, Vasily Shukshin, Vadim Kozhinov, Viktor Astafyev, Gavriil Troepolsky, Valentin Pikul, Igor Shafarevich, and many other prominent writers and publicists of Russia. For over a quarter of a century, the magazine has been headed by Stanislav Yuryevich Kunyaev. Currently, the magazine features and regularly publishes works by Alexander Kazintsev, Sergey Kunyaev, Alexander Segen, Yevgeny Shishkin, and Stanislav Zotov. The current authors of the magazine include Zakhar Prilepin, Roman Senchin, Sergey Shargunov, Alexander Prokhanov, Mikhail Tarkovsky, Valery Ganichev, Vladimir Bushin, Andrey Fursov, and many other well-known contemporary writers and publicists. The magazine consistently pays attention to the work of young authors.
The prose of the magazine "Nash Sovremennik" is always at the forefront, constantly in the struggle, tirelessly reflecting the attacks from the ever-changing, and not always for the better, reality. Whether the authors tell stories about distant times in our history, recent events that the 20th century was excessively rich in, or engage in an honest conversation about the present day, it always sounds modern and timely. The focus of the stories, novellas, and novels is the Russian person in all their manifestations, both heroic and unattractive, both bright and dark. The magazine's prose speaks the truth to both "kings" and the people. As the older generations pass, the young ones come forward - the future Belovs and Rasputins, Sholokhovs and Shukshins, Nosovs and Prokhanovs. Those who boldly venture into the turbulent sea of today's literary life in Russia and the world.
The journalism of the magazine "Nash Sovremennik" has always been characterized by its militancy and relevance, uncovering the most serious problems of the modern world, deep analysis of historical processes, and philosophical generalizations. The magazine stands on the Russian national soil and, through its original view of the world, reveals and analyzes complex processes in society. Not smoothing over problems, but trying to speak responsibly on the most acute topics, raising the most pressing questions - that is the magazine's creed. It is this kind of journalism that has earned the deserved recognition and interest of the readership.
For over a quarter of a century, the journalism department of the magazine has been led by analyst and political scientist, author of many issue-oriented books and articles, Alexander Ivanovich Kazintsev. Thanks in large part to his efforts, the magazine "Nash Sovremennik" has become particularly dear to readers for its uncompromising and clear ideological position, primarily aimed at defending Russian national interests.
