"Love Will Save the World" by Tim Lawrence meticulously details the formation and rapid development of American dance culture in the 1970s, which gave the world disco and its numerous derivatives.
The book carefully and accurately describes the cultural evolution - from the underground roots of New York's cultural scene to the tasteless boom in Manhattan and major points on the map of the rest of America - Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Stories of vibrant nightlife adventures, radical approaches to music, and the emergence of important establishments of the era, such as David Mancuso's Loft, Nicky Siano's Gallery, Larry Levan's Paradise Garage, Frankie Knuckles' Warehouse, Studio 54, and many others, are interspersed with detailed descriptions of the most influential DJs of that time and the records they loved to spin, as well as labels, musicians, vocalists, producers, remixers, promoters, and dancers who fueled the tireless engine of dance music.
The material of the book is based on three hundred interviews with the most influential players of the scene, including David Mancuso, Tom Moulton, Giorgio Moroder, Lolita Holloway, and Frankie Knuckles. The book contains over 20 special DJ playlists reflecting the changing tastes throughout the disco decade, and over 70 rare photographs from private collections.
