Maxim Gorky was a Russian and Soviet writer, playwright, and the first chairman of the Union of Soviet Writers. He was acquainted with Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov. In the USSR, Alexei Maximovich was the most published writer, nominated for the Nobel Prize 5 times. His works were published in millions of copies, included in the school curriculum, serving as an example of Soviet prose. The writer himself, although he lived abroad periodically, almost represented the ideal of a true Soviet person. However, the writer's personal life was colorful and passionate, and could not be reflected in his official biography. He was married twice, had numerous romances and fleeting passions.
