Queen Eleanor, or Eleanor of Aquitaine, is often compared to Helen of Troy. Partly this is fair, partly it simply diminishes the talents and merits of this outstanding woman. In her, the sobriety of a politician and boundless passion were astonishingly combined. She was a wonderful mother to some children, but a bad one to others for various reasons. Eleanor fearlessly went on a crusade with her first husband, King Louis VII of France, and for her love, offended by her second husband, King Henry II of England, she put the integrity of the state at stake. Finally, she raised the most famous king of medieval England, Richard the Lionheart.
The fate of this extraordinary woman is told in the next book of the series.
