The book is based on the classic work of the outstanding Russian biblical scholar, theologian, and professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, Alexander Pavlovich Lopukhin (1852-1904). In his monumental work "Biblical History. Old Testament," which had 20 editions by 1917, he collected and analyzed all the biblical-chronological, archaeological, historical, and ethnographic material available by the end of the 19th century. A. P. Lopukhin intended his work for the widest possible audience, as he believed that "biblical history can become an inexhaustible source of moral and higher historical education for any person capable of serious intellectual life." Recommended for publication by the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
