The book of the famous writer Alexander Potapov is the most complete documentary and artistic biography of the outstanding Russian poet Yakov Petrovich Polonsky (1819-1898).
The author shows the rich inner world of Polonsky - a wonderful poet, a talented prose writer, a gifted artist, a man of high morality. In the work on the book, Potapov used rare, previously unknown archival documents and materials, evidence and memoirs of Polonsky contemporaries, numerous publications of the XIX-XX centuries.
Polonsky was friendly with Turgenev, Fet, Apollo Grigoryev. His works were printed in his magazines Nekrasov and Dostoevsky. Togethev, Maikov, Goncharov worked with him together in the Foreign Censorship Committee. He also talked with the writers of the older generation - Zhukovsky, Veltman, Benediktov, Chaadaev, as well as with young writers Chekhov, Garshin, and Ponson. Among the acquaintances of Polonsky were artists Aivazovsky, Repin, Vereshchagin, composer Tchaikovsky and other outstanding personalities of Russia.
The publication is illustrated by the color reproductions of Polonsky’s paintings, contains about a hundred documentaries and materials from museums and the author’s archive.
