George Orwell (1903–1950) was a writer, journalist, and essayist, the author of the famous dystopian novel '1984'. Orwell's works were banned in various places, but despite this, he remains one of the most widely read authors. The neologisms he created, such as 'Big Brother' and 'thought police', have firmly established themselves in modern language. "'All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others'" is perhaps the most famous phrase from 'Animal Farm' (1945), a tale by George Orwell about the collapse of revolutionary hopes. In this book, Orwell managed to achieve two goals he set for himself back in 1937: 'to expose the Soviet myth' and 'to make political prose into art'. The edition includes Orwell's essay 'Freedom of the Press', intended as a preface to 'Animal Farm', but published only twenty years after the author's death.
