"Living and dead" one of the most powerful works about the Second World War. The author, in his feather book of the cycle, describes the events that unfolded in June-November 1941. The main characters are Politruk Sintsov and brigade commander Serpilin. In the early days of the war, these two courageous people met at the most advanced and pulled out of the encirclement, they suffered a lot of deprivation and already leaving the ring, Serpilin was severely injured, and Sintsov was captured. The political officer managed to flee the Germans, but being unconscious, he lost the documents, after which his life changed dramatically
