The textbook for the 6th grade has been revised and supplemented in accordance with the new requirements of the general education standard for literature in schools with Russian as the language of instruction. Due to a reduction in the number of hours allocated for the subject, some works (marked with an asterisk * in the book) included in the textbook may be recommended for independent reading by students: "Erscham" (A.N. Maikov), "Anecdotes about Hodja Nasreddin", "Christmas Eve" (N.V. Gogol), "Sketch of a Winter Day" (S.T. Aksakov), "The Man Overboard!" (K.M. Stanyukovich), the novella "Motl the Cantor's Son" (Sholom Aleichem), "Home" (N.D. Teleshov), "The Old Turtle" (Yu.M. Nagibin). The more complex (compared to the 5th grade) literary texts of various genres, educational articles, questions, and predominantly creative tasks presented in the textbook for the 6th grade contribute to furthering students' mastery of literary knowledge, the formation of necessary reading qualities and skills, the development of reading independence, interest in literary literature, and the improvement of teenagers' spiritual world.
