Civil wars are the bloodiest and most uncompromising conflicts in the history of mankind. The consequences of them are long and painfully experienced by society, which is often unable to overcome them completely. Using the example of three of the most famous civil wars - in the USA (1861-1865), Russia (1917-1922), and Spain (1936-1939) - the author examines this phenomenon as a historical phenomenon, highlights its characteristic features, paying special attention to the causes of the fratricidal slaughter and ways to end the conflict.
