For this publication, the Life of St. Sergius was chosen, compiled by Hieromonk Nikon (Christmas, later Archbishop of Vologda and Totem) This “Life” was first prepared for the press on the occasion of the anniversary of Sergius of Radonezh - the 500th anniversary of its death, solemnly celebrated in 1892. Later, the book was repeatedly reprinted, with additions and corrections. The main advantage of this "life" is its fullness. As the author himself wrote in the preface, his goal is to collect in one book everything that could be found in the historical and preaching literature about the Monk Sergius. " At the same time, setting out the historical material, the author also pursues the moral -disocciative goal - to teach readers some moral edification, organically arising from the life narrative.
