In July 1941, a ghetto was created in Polish Bialya for the Jewish population. His prisoners were required to work in factories that produced textile and military products for German troops. In August 1943, the ghetto was decided to eliminate, and residents to send Treblink and Maidanek to the death camps. The Jews tried to resist - but the uprising they organized in four days, and the few survivors moved to the partisan struggle. A native of Bialystok and a participant in resistance, Doctor of Philology and Professor of the Voronezh State Pedagogical University Sergey Samuilovich Berkner wrote the book “The Life and Struggle of the Bialystok ghetto. Notes of a resistance participant ”(publishing house“ Scribes ”) - about his life in the ghetto, participation in the preparation of the uprising and what happened after his suppression.
