Dmitry Sergeyevich Likhachev is a world-renowned scholar: a philologist, culturologist, art historian, author of around 500 scientific and 600 journalistic works, and chairman of the board of the Russian Cultural Foundation. During the years of the Great Patriotic War, he was in the besieged Leningrad, where he witnessed all the horrors of the blockade. In his memoirs, he writes about this, detailing the life of the blockade survivors against the backdrop of general reflections on the moral and ethical state of people in these most difficult conditions. Military doctor and surgeon Fedor Fedorovich Grachev worked in a hospital in besieged Leningrad during the war and left unique memoirs. The author presents a whole gallery of defenders of Leningrad - soldiers, officers, sailors, volunteers among scientists, students, and writers. It is noteworthy that the famous Soviet writer Fedor Abramov was treated in this hospital after being wounded.
