"Jerusalem Delivered" is a famous chivalric epic by Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), a free interpretation of the events of the First Crusade, which ended with the capture of Jerusalem. An unparalleled battle canvas, where fictional characters coexist with real historical figures, and romantic adventures are replaced by fantasies involving sorcerers and dark forces. The book is published in an exemplary translation by Roman Dubrovkin, performed in rhymed octaves with all the stylistic features of the original preserved. The edition is illustrated with a series of engravings by Giambattista Piazzetta (1683–1754) and accompanied by a historical and literary commentary.
