The book includes memoirs of participants in the military actions of the 1812 war.
Fyodor Nikolaevich Glinka (1786-1880) - a well-known writer of the first quarter of the 19th century, a participant in the Patriotic War of 1812, and the editor of the 'Military Journal'. As an adjutant to General Miloradovich, Glinka took part in almost all the battles of the war against Napoleon.
Nadezhda Andreevna Durova (1783-1866) - better known as the 'Cavalry Maiden' - the first woman officer in Russian history, who went through a military path during the Napoleonic wars. In the middle of her life, she took up writing memoirs and, as Alexander Pushkin said, 'held the pen as firmly as she once held the sword'.
Denis Vasilyevich Davydov (1784-1839) - a poet and writer of the second quarter of the 19th century, one of the most famous and beloved heroes of the 1812 war. Lieutenant Colonel Davydov approached Bagration with a proposal to create a partisan detachment. Davydov's hussar detachment carried out daring raids on the enemy forces, which formed the basis of his memoirs.
General Alexei Petrovich Yermolov (1777-1861) - one of the most famous participants in the 1812 war. 'Your exploits,' wrote Alexander Pushkin, 'are the heritage of the Fatherland, and your glory belongs to Russia.'
