The collection "Letters of the Imperial Family from Captivity" reminds us of a tragic event - on the night of July 16-17, 1918, the imperial family and their servants, who were under arrest in Yekaterinburg, were shot by the decision of the Ural Regional Council of Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers' Deputies. What the close members of the imperial family wanted to say in the last months of their lives found reflection in their letters, which managed to reach the outside world.
Many representatives of the White Movement, who had sworn allegiance to the emperor in the Russian Empire, did not renounce it even in exile. They carefully preserved the letters that came from the imprisoned members of the imperial family to their relatives and friends, whether true or false. These letters were meticulously collected and published.
"The Letters of the Imperial Family from Captivity" is a book that was released in 1974 at the Orthodox Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, USA. It includes personal letters and other materials from the last seventeen months of the imperial family's earthly journey. The author and compiler of the "Letters of the Imperial Family from Captivity," E.E. Alferiev, a professor at the Holy Trinity Seminary, put not only his efforts but also his soul into this edition.
