Ilya Gabai is an active participant in the human rights movement of the 1960-1970s, a teacher, poet. In January 1970, he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and sent to the Kemerovo camp of general regime. The book presents remarkable letters of I. Gabai to the wife, son, fellow practitioners and friends at the Pedagogical Institute (MGPI named after Lenin), acquaintances. In the camp, his last poem “Selected places” was born, where the author in the form of an imaginary correspondence with friends reorganized the main motives of his life and creativity. The reader will not be able to but appreciate the moral, intellectual level of the author, the depth of his judgments about life, about literature, his brilliant humor. The book also includes the last word of I. Gabay in court, which is not only not outdated, but also today reads as topical journalism
