Jean-Georges Noverre was an outstanding choreographer, reformer, and theorist of the art of dance, who entered history as the 'father of modern ballet'. He laid the aesthetic foundations of ballet, and many of his statements remain relevant to this day. In his famous work 'Lettres sur la danse' (Letters on Dance), Noverre not only summarized the accumulated experience in choreography up to that time but also with mathematical precision and artistic imagery justified the basic principles of choreography. This book is a reprint of the 'Letters on Dance' from 1927, translated from the very last edition of 1807. 2nd edition, stereotype.
