Leonardo da Vinci's creative legacy includes hundreds of architectural drawings - mostly sketches and rough drafts with rare notes in the margins, most of which are closely related to each other. This part of da Vinci's graphic legacy reflects various stages of his conceptual thinking and still sparks heated debates among researchers of architectural history. The book under consideration examines the direct and indirect connections of the maestro with his contemporaries and the dynamics of the spread of his architectural ideas. The authors hope that their research will contribute to a clear definition of Leonardo's role at the dawn of the Modern era, which had a beneficial influence on all forms of art, and will present a more complete picture of Leonardo's relationships with his clients.
About the authors:
Sabina Frommel is a professor and head of the study of Renaissance art history at the Practical School of Higher Studies (Sorbonne). From 2013 to 2015, she was a visiting professor at the University of Bologna. Her research covers a wide range of topics: the great architects of the Italian Renaissance, the evolution of architectural typologies and languages in the Quattrocento and Cinquecento, migration processes in Europe, and the Renaissance heritage up to the 19th century.
Jean Guillaume is an honorary professor of art history of the Renaissance at the Sorbonne. He organizes conferences on architectural history at the Center for Advanced Studies of the Renaissance in Tours. Together with Andre Chastel, he is the author of the collection "De Architectura" (Picard). He is a researcher of French and Italian Renaissance architecture, particularly French castles.
Sara Tallyagamba is an associate professor at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences, Epistemology Division, History of Science, and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo. She is a scholarship holder of the Interdepartmental Center "Urbino and Perspective" and the Director of the New Rossana and Carlo Pedretti Foundation.
