The book of the Canadian historian R. DEY was published in 1973 and still remains the main study of the economic views of L.Dtretsky. Discussions of the 1920s on the construction of socialism are considered from the point of view of economic relations of Soviet Russia with Western countries. The main idea of the author lies in the fact that Trotsky did not object to the construction of socialism in one country, but considered the erroneous concept of the possibility of building socialism in the country, separately taken. Exploring the views of Trotsky, his activity, the fight against political opponents, the ratio of the concepts of isolationism and integration with the West, Dae gives a new and very convincing interpretation of a large period of Soviet history - from the October Revolution until 1940. An analysis of the author is based on a good knowledge of facts and a deep study of sources.
