A. Strokina always wanted to tell about Leo Tolstoy in a way that would touch the hearts of both adults and children. The idea was born to write about the writer's life in a simple and understandable language for children. Here is how A. Strokina describes her idea to write the book "Leo Tolstoy. Nothing but Joy":
"...The story of Leo Tolstoy is a real mystery. For me, it is so. And Yasnaya Polyana is a separate island for me, which seems to be flying above the whole world, attached to an invisible huge air balloon. It flies over fields and rivers, over houses - tiny village ones and multi-story ones, tickling the clouds. This island flies over cities and mountain peaks: under it are Pamir, Tian Shan, the Himalayas, volcanoes, hills, under it is the Pacific Ocean, the Andes, the forests of Patagonia. Everyone is welcome on this island, everyone will find something important here: an answer to a difficult question, or help in some matter that just won't work out, or understanding, or, for example, a green stick holding the secret of happiness. Because here everyone is loved and heard: people, animals, birds, even grass.
I searched for a voice for a long time to tell the story of Leo Tolstoy in a way that would distinguish my story from others: maybe it would be quieter, or more sonorous, or more cheerful... And suddenly, amidst the street noise on one of the autumn days, I heard this voice and never doubted for a minute. I understood that this time the mystery of Leo Tolstoy would be told by his youngest son, the youngest child - Vanechka."
The idea and text of the book were highly praised by Pavel Basinsky, a journalist and author of a series of books about L. Tolstoy: "There are many books about Leo Tolstoy, but there has never been one like this. The personality of the great writer is shown through the eyes of his youngest and most beloved child in the family - Vanechka Tolstoy (1888-1895). He was called an 'angel'. At not even seven years old, he mastered foreign languages and wrote stories, one of which, 'Saved Taxi,' was published after his early death. But the main thing is that he amazed everyone with his wisdom in judging people. He was a peacemaker, and under the gaze of his gray eyes, all conflicts in the Tolstoy family were resolved on their own. His father considered him his spiritual heir. This is an important and necessary book for children and their parents."
