In the book by Dr. of Pedagogical Sciences, Honorary Professor of the A.I. Evdokimov Moscow State Medical University, the author attempts to reject stereotypes in the interpretation of Leo Tolstoy's religious and moral teachings as 'weak thinker' and even 'supposedly reactionary' (V.I. Lenin). The author interprets Tolstoy's religious and moral teachings as a science of spiritual life of a person striving for meaning and values. The research tool used was the pedagogical activities of the brilliant visionary, preacher, and educator Leo Tolstoy, who in the mid-19th century, for the first time in human sciences, proposed to rely not on philosophical, but on psychological categories. Thanks to this, Tolstoy left a description of a way of spiritual and moral life to the world, based on willpower as a basic motivation. Tolstoy outlines paths for the development of humanistic pedagogy and psychology, introduces the concepts of soul and spirit into scientific discourse, thereby overcoming the humanitarian crisis in human sciences. The book is addressed to a wide audience, especially the pedagogical community.
