Nikolai Albertovich Kun was born in Moscow. His mother, Antonina Nikolaevna Ignatieva, came from an old Russian noble family, father, Albert Frantsevich Kun, a native of a family who had German and Anglohotland roots.
Already in childhood, Nikolai was carried away by the history of ancient times and devoted his whole life to the study.
In 1903, after graduating from studying at Moscow University, Kun moved to Tver and began working at the women"s teacher"s seminary. Here he gave his first lecture on the history of ancient Greece. In 1905, Kun worked at the University of Ed. Meyer in Berlin. At the end of 1906 he returned to Tver.
In subsequent years, Nikolai Kun taught the history of religions, the history of the ancient world, the history of culture, geography in various higher educational institutions in which he was the rank of professor.
Since 1933, Kun was the editor of the department of ancient history of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia and the Malaya Soviet Encyclopedia, wrote several hundred articles and notes.
