The monograph presents an overview of the legal status (chief) of the inquiry body, the head of the inquiry unit and the inquiry officer in the Russian criminal process. Certain norms of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, which constitute the skeleton of the legal institution of inquiry, in particular in the context of procedural inspections, and the production of inquiry in an abbreviated form, are subjected to critical analysis. The attention of readers is emphasized on the imperfection of regulatory legal acts of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs system, which, according to the author, needs a serious update against the background of new threats from the criminal world, as well as clarifying the place and role of the inquiry of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
