This work is the first attempt to create a popular science encyclopedia of criminal law. This circumstance explains the approach chosen by the authors to the presentation of the material in a form available for a wide range of people. At the same time, the theoretical level corresponding to the current state of the science of criminal law is fully preserved. Historical and legal material is given, sayings and proverbs are given, reflecting the essence of a criminal law phenomenon, links to artistic works and films, the plots of which allow more objectively to perceive the above. In necessary cases, cross links are used.
Encyclopedia, like any other work of this kind, is built on an alphabetical principle, therefore its structure does not repeat the structure of criminal law, which has a division into a general and special part. The selection of words and terms was carried out on the basis of their use in criminal law and the theory of criminal law, including foreign.
