This monograph conducted a consistent analysis of the origin and development of the Institute of Legal responsibility in the judicial and civilistic process throughout the history of the Russian state and law. For each period, the types and measures of legal liability for various procedural offenses have been identified and analyzed, their evolution and transformation were shown. Particular attention is paid to such a type as procedural responsibility, and its development, as well as measures directed against abuse of procedural law and unscrupulous procedural behavior. It was revealed that the procedural liability was already known to Russian law at its very origins and was actively applied in the trial. At the end of the study, a table is shown that clearly demonstrates a change in the list of all measures of legal liability in the Russian judicial (civilistic) process in every historical period
