The textbook is devoted to the development of university education and scientific jurisprudence in Russia in the first decades of the XIX century. It gives a brief description of the university reform of 1803–1804, the place of the law faculty in the new model of the Russian University is shown, its curriculum is characterized, the system of training lawyers in lyceums and higher schools, at training courses under state authorities, is considered. In addition, the training manual describes the development of legal sciences at the law faculties of Russian universities, and the scientific works of prominent Russian jurists of the first third of the 19th century are characterized. Particular attention is paid to the scientific work of M. M. Speransky in the field of jurisprudence. One of the factors that largely stimulated the development of domestic scientific jurisprudence is presented in the indicated period attempts to systematize Russian legislation. The training manual is intended for students and teachers of law universities, studying and teaching educational courses “Introduction to the Specialty” and “The History of the Russian State and Law”
