The textbook presents the history of the formation and subsequent activities of the criminal-executive system and the bodies of justice throughout the existence of the Russian state-from the end of the 9th to the beginning of the XXI century. The indicated issues are considered not only as a special part of the history of public administration, but also as an independent subject based on interdisciplinary relations of domestic history, the history of the domestic state and law, and criminal executive law. The book covers the basic laws of the activities of places of imprisonment as an element of the socio-economic base of the state in socio-political conditions that changing over the centuries.
