The monograph outs a modern concept of identification of firearms. The processes of weapon production determined the need to make adjustments to the traditional foundations of forensic ballistic identification, and the third group included in the binary system of general and private signs of traces - subclass (subgroup) signs. An analysis of the modern practice of the identification of firearms shows that the main obstacles in this process are subclass signs and prejudice. The former are associated with the manufacture of parts and parts of the weapon, and prejudice - with the subjective interpretation of the expert of the results of comparing signs in traces, which underlies the formation of conclusions of a comparative study. In addition, at present, the urgent task is to confirm the ability of a qualified expert to draw reliable identification conclusions.
