The textbook was prepared in accordance with the norms of the Criminal Executive Code of the Russian Federation (taking into account the amendments made to it) and regulatory legal acts adopted on its basis. It discusses the concept, content and strategy, as well as the main factors of determining and implementing the criminal-executive policy, the concept and subject of criminal-executive law, the system of criminal-executive legislation, the legal status of persons serving sentences, their characteristics. International standards for the treatment of convicts, including the Mandela (UN, 2015) rules, are analyzed. The procedure and conditions for the execution of all types of criminal punishments, the legal regulation of the execution of sentences against convicted military personnel are considered. Given the functioning of the Federal Penitentiary Service, the organizational framework of the activities of institutions and bodies performing punishments, issues of ensuring the security of personnel of these institutions are highlighted.
