This study is devoted to the analysis of coercion in Russian civil law by identifying its characteristic features, signs and species. It discusses measures and subjects of public coercion, pay special attention to the exercise of the right to lawsuit as the main form of public coercion. A characteristic of private coercion in civil law is given by analyzing self-defense, operational influence, civil control, as well as claims of the subject as special varieties of civil law measures of private coercion.
