The Arab revolutions of 2011 found the world community by surprise. After decades of stability under the rule of autocratic regimes, the Arab world, it would seem, suddenly ended up in the whirlwind of rapid and radical changes. Meanwhile, there is no more correct way to predict the future than to look at the past. It was along this path that the outstanding British historian Eugene Rogan went. His book describes the history of the Arab states of North Africa, a fertile crescent and the Arabian Peninsula since the 16th century. Of particular interest is a detailed story about the turning points in the history of the Arab world in the twentieth century. In his work, the author relies on the widest range of Arab sources, including numerous evidence of eyewitnesses: historians, intellectuals, politicians, journalists, writers, ordinary men and women. Thanks to this, we will not only recognize the history of the Arab world, but we get the opportunity to look at it through the eyes of the Arabs themselves - the people who created it. The book is addressed to everyone who is interested in the past and present of the Arab countries and wants to understand the origins of those significant events that occur in the Middle East and throughout the Arab world today
