The book is dedicated to the first Slavic translation of the popular monument of Byzantine literature - Lygrates of John the Sinai.
This translation is supposedly made by the scribes of the Preslav Literary School. Three aspects of the problem are affected: linguistic, textological and literary. The issue of the Greek original translation is considered, a characteristic of this translation is given, its manuscripts are analyzed, a stamp of their relationship is proposed, and monuments of ancient Russian bookness are called, which retained fragments of the Preslavic translation of the ladder
