Family drama unfolds during the First World War and after it on the Cote d"Azur, where rich and very rich, mostly Americans enjoy life. From the side it seems that the life of the heroes is serene and prosperous. Among the aristocratic elite stands out a married couple Nicole and Dick Divers - handsome, rich, idols of the public. But behind a beautiful facade, a tragedy is hidden. Emptiness, boredom, disappointment reign in the air. The characters of the novel are stinging souls, sometimes not aware of the reasons for their anxiety. Dissatisfaction, cooling of feelings, searching thrill, again disappointment - what is it? Sattlement or internal conflict?
