The book is written according to original materials collected by the author in the field during dialectological expeditions in the territories of the Republic of Karelia, the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions for 30 years. The work presents a comprehensive analysis of Russian dialects, which includes historical and geographical essays, a description of the ethno-language situation, an analysis of the features of language contacts in this territory.
The problems of the Karelian-Russian, Samo-Russian, Komi-Russian Scandinavian-Russian ethno-linguistic interaction are considered. The vocabulary of various thematic groups is described. A large place in the book is occupied by records of dialectic speech (over 100 informants) and a dictionary of Russian dialects of the White Sea (about 11,600 vocabulary articles) The book is illustrated by original photos of the author.
