The book included articles written by the authors together and separately in the period 1994-2019, some of them were published earlier in various publications, others are published for the first time. Studies are devoted to various aspects of Russian semantics: the meaning of words and phrases, prefixes and word -formation models, the meaning of discursive words and the content of discursive and narrative strategies are analyzed. In this case, the semantics in most cases are considered against the background, in context or in the future of similar ones - in some ways similar, in some ways different - facts of the main European languages. The comparison is made both at the level of etymology or the history of words (in particular, ways of borrowing or tracing), and from the point of view of semantics and cultural pragmatics, this approach is conditionally indicated by the term "comparative semantics".
