Paul Verlaine (1844-1896) is one of the most translated European poets, capturing the finest landscape of the human soul in verses and prose. In his work, the ideas of the “end of the century” era - longing for childhood, melancholy, and self -destruction were most sharply sharpened. He was a poet of internal vision, inner hearing, giving each reader an opportunity to resolve the riddles of his deeply personal and at the same time opened lyrical feeling in a special way. The proposed collection of Verlaine’s lyrics in translations and with the comments of Mikhail Yasnov is samples of the very verne “classics". They show how rich the tradition of interpretations of his poems in Russian is and how open it is open to new interpretations and formal solutions
