The manual presents systematicly organized practical tasks at the course "Introduction to Linguistics". Methods of systematizing the material, choosing sources for preparing for practical classes and the methodology of seminars as a whole are due to many years of experience of the author’s work in teaching this course at the university philological faculty. In the process of completing tasks, students master the theory of the introductory course of science about the language, replenish their linguistic horizons by getting acquainted with new concepts and theoretical provisions, comprehend the mechanisms of solving linguistic problems, developing their intellectual-regulatory potential. The manual presents varying degrees of complexity of the form of monitoring of students" knowledge, which can be used by a teacher of discipline of choice. The minimum dictionary proposed in the manual reflects the basic theoretical positions of the entire course, mandatory for students. The manual is designed for an interested student audience, preferring a creative approach to the development of theoretical linguistic knowledge.
