Despite the fact that the name of Marshall Makluen is mentioned in each textbook about the media, in Russian about his ideas, not much is written in detail. The purpose of this book is to present to the Russian -speaking reader the legacy of Makluen in more detail, to trace the connection of his ideas with the field of media studies and the possibility of their use today.
The book consists of three parts. Part I introduces the reader to the main works of Makluen about the media, what is in his understanding of media and media environment, and also describes the media patterns, cliches and archetypes in the media and, finally, a notebook of media effects. Part II shows how these concepts can be used in research media, media practitioner and media content. Part III talks about media ecology and the problem of information overload.
The book is focused on students studying media in the framework of social and humanitarian specialties, and will also be useful to practices - journalists, media managers, researchers of media markets, etc
