The life time of a literary text is largely determined by the ability of the reader to discover meanings significant for himself. These meanings are far from always obvious, but they can be learned to extract from the linear sequence of words, “unpacking” the form connected by compatibility. The method of paradigmatic analysis of the text proposed in the manual involves the establishment of various kinds of textual lexical sets (text paradigms), grouping around the "center", the role of which is played by the author of the word of the word. The texts of the works of F. Dostoevsky, A. Chekhov, V. Nabokov, A. Bely, O. Mandelstam, I. Brodsky and others are analyzed. The main attention is paid to the problem of metaphors, in particular its attitude to such philosophical categories as consciousness, space and time and time , the embodiment of which in a literary text relies on their vision by the author. The sections dedicated to the work of S. Dovlatov are also associated with a metaphorical understanding of everyday life
