The basis for the materials of the manual was the original text of the stories of A. Doyle, which are the collection of "Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". A separate section of the manual (Unit) is devoted to each story, which is a relatively independent educational-methodical module. This structure of the manual allows the teacher to dose the reading volume proposed to students. Each section is designed for four hours of auditorial work and approximately the same amount of preliminary home -made independent work of students on reading and exercises. For the convenience of working with the manual, all sections are formed according to a single principle and include identical in the nature of the exercise.
For use in home reading at 1-2 courses of the undergraduate of the linguistic areas of training (English), as well as for all independently studying English and fiction, whose level of language proficiency can be approximately defined on the scale of the Council of Europe CEFR Like B2.
