In the readers offered by the book, written by a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences V. N. Yartseva, an analysis of the historical development of a proposal in the English language is carried out. The author’s attention is focused on some problems that are of fundamental importance in the history of the English language, in order to analyze in detail exactly those constructions that have undergone significant changes throughout the history of the language. Therefore, the degree of details in the coverage of various syntactic constructions of the English language is not the same. Examples extracted from the writing monuments of various periods are not just an illustrative material for expressed provisions, but are subjected to analyzing, which makes it possible to reveal the typical features of one or another syntactic turnover and detect historical patterns in its development.
