The dictionary contains more than 106,000 words, which are the vocabulary of the modern Russian literary language and, with all additions, retains the principles of compactness, historicity and scientific reliability of the spelling material included in it. He continues the best traditions of the academic "spelling dictionary of the Russian language", the first edition of which was published in 1956 after the approval of the current "rules of Russian spelling and punctuation."
The dictionary includes words found in the artistic and special literature that need spelling normalization - scientific and scientific -technical terms, vernacular and dialect words, historicisms, etc., as well as derivative and compound words.
In the appendix to the dictionary, a list of words is given, when the presentation of which is observed in modern spelling dictionaries.
