In the book proposed by the reader, a large domestic linguist, academician N.M. Shansky contains the presentation of the most important theoretical issues of linguistics, formulate the principles of word -formation analysis and its special tasks are determined, in contrast to morphemic and etymological analysis. The author considers general issues related to the study of the word as a structural whole, describes the morphemic composition of words in the Russian language, defines word -formation concepts. Much attention in the book is paid to the characterization of various historical changes in the morphological structure of the word, a total overview of the main methods of Russian derivation is given. As an appendix in the publication, the articles "derivation of words and phraseological turns" and "affixoids in the word -formation system of the modern Russian literary language", complementing the general picture of Russian word formation.
