The first posthumous collected works of M. L. Gasparov (in six volumes) sets his task to fully convey the versatility of his scientific interests and represent the main directions of his activity. The fifth volume dedicated to the translation work of Gasparov includes both his own translations and articles about the work of the translator and translation as the field of philology, presented here in the maximum fullness. The volume opens with the monograph "Experimental Translations", published by Mikhail Leonovich in 2003 as a result of many years of work on the transformations into the Russian language of the texts of ancient and medieval authors, as well as the poets of the Renaissance and the New Age. The translation activity of Gasparov included the scientific editing and understanding of the works of predecessors, so it could not but affect the general issues of the art of translation, which he devoted to special articles. He deserves special attention to his scholly and comments made to the translations of "difficult" poets of the Renaissance and the New Age. In line with his scientific work, articles about Russian translators from Bryusov to Marshak, as well as notes in Memoriam S. V. Shervinsky, M. E. Grabar-Passek, F. A. Petrovsky and S. A. Osherov, were written
